The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has announced one of the most significant reductions in fibre broadband prices in Ghana’s telecommunications history, following engagements between the government and MTN Ghana aimed at improving internet affordability.
In a social media post, the Minister revealed that customers who previously paid GH¢987 for a one-month unlimited 100 Mbps package will now pay GH¢299 for the same service, representing a price cut of nearly 70 percent. “Effective today, fibre broadband prices have crashed,” he wrote.
The revised pricing structure also introduces new speed tiers for customers. A 300 Mbps unlimited broadband package is now available for GH¢444 per month, while a premium 500 Mbps unlimited package has been priced at GH¢999 monthly.
According to the Minister, the price reductions followed sustained calls from Ghanaians for more affordable, stable, and reliable broadband services. He commended the management and staff of MTN Ghana for responding positively to these concerns. “I want to express my gratitude to the management and staff of MTN who have heeded our call for more affordable, stable and reliable fibre broadband,” he stated.
The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations indicated that it would continue engaging other telecommunications providers to push for similarly competitive pricing across the industry. This price review is expected to bring significant relief to households, businesses, students, remote workers, and digital content creators who depend heavily on stable, high-speed internet connectivity.
With demand for broadband services continuing to rise across Ghana, industry observers believe this development could pressure other internet service providers to review their own pricing structures to remain competitive in an increasingly digital economy.
